iBooks Author

If you haven’t heard about the new iBooks Author app from Apple you are already behind the 8 ball even though it was just released last week. Honestly, it is the coolest free software application to come out is a long time and it just may completely change that way the desktop publishing industry works. The thing about the new iBooks Author is that it is so incredibly easy to use that even the most inexperienced designer can come up with astounding new ebooks.

With Author you can create multi-touch ebook and text books and really all kinds of books that you can use and interact with on the iPad. You can create books that go way beyond the printed book and even way beyond what is normally found in an ebook. You will be able to create books with photo galleries you can scroll through and movies you can click and watch. plus 3d models you can twist and turn and look at in any configuration.

If you think you can’t create a cool ebook with author, you will be surprised at the great templates you can start with that give you a beginning point to unleash your creativity. What is so amazing about iBooks Author from Apple is that you don’t need to know anything about being a graphic designer or page layout expert because everything in Author is drag and drop. You can just drag elements around the page until you are satisfied and like magic you have a nicely designed book that you can share with your family and friends or even sell if the information is something people want.

Creating a book is simple in Author. All you have to do is drop in word processing files like Microsoft Word documents, drop in pictures anywhere on the page and drag them around until you like what you see and the text automgically flows around your pictures. You can also add all kind of objects like you could if you were using Adobe Illustrator, plus add widgets such as interactive images and illustrations, photo galleries, 3D objects, movies, quizzes and more.

And once you are done you can submit your book to the iBookstore and let people download it for free or purchase it. You can also send it to iTunes U or as mentioned before, you can share it with anyone who has an iPad.

If I were Adobe and sold an expensive program like InDesign I would be slightly worried because iBooks Author is going to send shock waves through the industry because they have just made ebook publishing so easy and have really taken things to another lever. Don’t miss out on the revolution.

iPad iBooks

One of the best thing about getting an iPad is the iPad iBooks app that allows you to read literally thousands of books with your Apple iPad. While Amazon has their Kindle reader and Barnes and Noble has their Nook, there will always be Apple fans that will have nothing to do with either of those because their iPad offers all they need, especially with iBooks. And one of the best things about this great reading app is that there are tons of free iBooks.

You can download all the books you want from the iBookstore at Apple because it is just like iTunes except it is for books you read on your iPad. There are more than 700,000 books for you to read and the count keeps growing. If you can’t find the book you need out of those 700,000 don’t worry because there are more being added all the time and I mean who can possibly read that many books even in several lifetimes?

If it would be possible to ever run out of room on your iPad, even if you have a 64 monster, you will never have to worry because there is always iCloud. That means your books downloaded from the iBookstore will never go away, even if you lose your iPad or it gets stolen, you will always have access to your iCloud account where your books will always be stored.

And of course there are also textbooks for your iPad that are nothing like anything you have ever seen. IN fact, there is some discussion as to whether the iBooks app may put the textbook industry out of business. With a traditional textbook you just flip pages and read some boring professor’s diatribe you can hardly get through. You know what I’m talking about right? But with textbooks created in iBooks Author you can check out and rotateĀ  3d models, see interactive galleries of nature’s wonders when you are studying geology, watch a video when you are studying history and actually write notes in your own textbook. And of course, these new textbooks on the iPad will be much cheaper than the huge costs of your books at college.

iPad iBooks promises to be revolutionary and you need to check it out for your iPad. Hopefully one day they will come out for iBooks for Mac and all of us iMac users with 27″ screens will get to enjoy the cool reading experience you iPad users do.

What Is iBooks?

With the recent release of the incredibly cool Apple iBooks Author that lets you create amazing multi-touch books for the iPad, lots of people want to know, exactly what is iBooks? As of just a few days ago, I had never heard of iBooks, much less iBooks Author, but let me tell you the whole concept is incredible and just very well may revolutionize book publishing and may make higher end software packages such as Adobe InDesign out of business.

iBooks is basically the reader application for the iPad that is also available for the other Apple touch devices such as the iPhone and iPod Touch, but iBooks works best on an iPad. That’s be cause it is the answer to the Kindle from Amazon and the Barnes and Noble Nook reader. You install the app on your iPad and then download anything from the over 700,000 books from the iBookstore. And the great thing is, is that many of these books are free.

And what really has people excited about this new app is that it is starting to revolutionize the textbook industry, especially with the new iBooks Author app that will let anyone create a book for the iPad. The old boring, and very expensive, school books business is about to be turned on its head because we’re talking about interactive textbooks now, not just paper with boring dialogue and dry forumlas. You can have videos, quizzes, picture galleries and more imbedded into your textbooks.

And you can also write notes in the books you have on your iPad. For instance, all you have to do is just swipe you finger over some text and it will highlight and then you can write a note about it. If you are like me, I hate writing in a hard cover book because it seems like I’m then ruining the book, but that isn’t going to happen with iBooks because it was specifically made so you actually can write in your books and textbooks.

You can also arrange your books any way you want and you can store all your books in the iCloud so if you ever lose your iPad, you will still have your books, and if you just want to go somewhere with your iPhone, then you will still have access to all your books. Is that col or what?

With all this sounding so great, it sure would be nice if Apple would hear us desktop and laptop users and bring this cool invention to us users. We aren’t sure when it will happen, but we will let you know when it does. So stay tuned.
